Guess what we're reading in book group this month?!?!
I know that I have seen this movie, the old black and white one, but I don't remember much about it.
NOW I get to read it for real!!!!!!
I think when I am done reading I am going to watch the new version of it,
but which one?
The Colin Firth BBC mini series?
The Keira Knightley movie?
Any suggestions???
Does anyone want to come watch it with me when I do??

Ugh. The Colin Firth one of course.
The newer version is modernized way too much (although it has beautiful cinematography) and um...whoever was doing the hair/makeup SUCKS. You can see Keira's real short and spiky hair sticking out of her bun-wig throughout the entire movie. (And Keira Knightley as Elizabeth?? Come on. I like her in the Pirate movies, but ugh. I really can't stand her in this classic with her ugly underbite.)
The BBC actually follows the book, and well...it's just a million times better.
The Mr. Darcy in the new movie is borderline chinless...and I think could have been a Bingley instead.
But...if you're looking to not sit through six hours of 19th century England, I suppose the newer one will do. But ugh! There are so many things wrong with it.
I ESPECIALLY hate how Lydia in the newer movie is the one who tells Elizabeth that it was Mr. Darcy who paid all of Wickham's debts. (I'm pretty sure that happens, if I remember correctly, I only watched the thing once.) This totally upsets Lydia's entire character.

I was going to say watch the Knightley one first and THEN watch the BBC miniseries. If you see the BBC mini you won't like the Knightley one at all. Unlike Meta, I like Matthew MacFadyen (new Darcy.) There's a scene of him striding through a meadow that is *heartstopping*.
CW has the best idea.
p.s. the real question is do you have CARAMEL popcorn?
I wanna come....I haven't seen any of them. Isn't there an LDS current day version that came out a couple of years ago? I didn't see that one either....

I say the mini series, although my 13 year old daughter loves the Keira Knightley version.
I guess that means I'm old.....
Better make it double butter!!

I have seen both movies multiple times and read the book twice. The BBC mini series is so much more authentic to the book; although I do agree that new movie has amazing cinematography & music. Don't bother with that cheesy LDS version EVER. It was horrendous.

b.- Please come, and bring your salsa too!! I heard there was an LDS version too but I also heard that it sucked. I'll stick to the cleavage and stud versions my own self.

RYNELL- Glad to see you here! I don't think I'll touch the LDS version, I am Lactose Intolerant where movies are concerned.
So I made it about 3/4 the way through the book completely convinced I'd not only read it before, but I'd seen it before.
Then I realized what I have seen and read is Sense and Sensibility.
Duh!
(But couldn't you totally swap some of the characters from one to the other?)
Loved the book. But then again I also really liked the Keira Knightly version as well. I myself have not seen any other version though.
I will bring Provo Bakery goodies and a fluffy pillow. Count me in for whatever version!

I admit, my love of Colin Firth kind of makes me all too critical of any other Mr. Darcys. So I shouldn't be too harsh on this Matthew MacFadyen fellow.
Still...Keira's hair spiking out at the bottom of her wig. Unforgivable. Just is.
Meta- I've been crushing hard on Colin Firth ever since BJD. He's not classically handsome but he is such a hot piece of brain candy! So I think I will start with the Colin Firth version.
I haven't seen Keira in other things but the pirates but I just have a feeling she might be annoying.
I LOVE... LOVE Colin Firth... he will always be my Mr. Darcy. There were a few moments when that new Darcy... did have his moments. But... Firth... *sigh* Plus, I just love BBC.
I helped make the LDS P&P so I think it's cute. Think of it more as a love story to Provo.

Apparently the "erection scene" is when Elizabeth bumps into Mr. Darcy after she walks a few miles in the mud to go to Netherfield to visit her sister, Jane. She takes Mr. Darcy by surprise, and...
It's called the "erection scene" because I guess the director told Firth that at this moment his character finds himself instantly aroused. Or something like that. Yeah, who knew Austen could be interpreted as sooo scandalous!
The Kiera Knightly one makes me use the international sign for "Girl about to cry tears of joy" (which is flapping your hands up and down in front of your face as fast as possible and sucking in your lips.:))
We watched it at my friends birthday party and we all cried. Even L~. And she never cries about sappy love movies. Ever.
